📖 What you need to know

In New Jersey, brokers must deposit client and escrow funds, such as earnest money deposits, into a designated trust or escrow account and may not commingle them with personal or operating funds. Real estate licenses are renewed on a periodic cycle set by the Real Estate Commission, and licensees must complete the required continuing education to remain in good standing. Because New Jersey is not a community property state, property and funds are handled under common-law and equitable-distribution principles rather than community property rules.
